Abstract

Nowadays there have been various attempts to retrieve the ‘sense of place’ for Bandar Johor Bahru. This is in addition to attracting visitors to the city to experience the city’s new development program, beautification and other historical main attractions that have been forgotten nearly half a century ago. Historically, pertaining to rapid development, the city was predominantly divided into several urban districts and waterfront area. The concept of ‘Timeline’ was created to acknowledge the city transformation by demonstrating historical chronologies that took place alongshore of Lido beach. By showcasing the unique elements of architecture, tradition and indigenous artistic value of Johor, the disconnected spaces will be linked that will significantly bring new meaning and experience to visitors. Although perceived as rather limited and complex, the ‘linear’ concept proposed is seen to be able to inject new look and transform the fabric of Bandar Johor Bahru.
