Abstract

The fame and glamour of Jalan Bukit Bintang in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city center has inspired the design of this attractive pedestrian walkway. The aim of this design is to create a livable, comfortable and functional walking environment along the street amidst the busy and congested street and the hot tropical climate. Taking from the street name of Bukit Bintang, the form and characteristic of the ‘STAR’ (which means Bintang in Malay) was captured as the design approach where this concept provides an inclusive framework embracing the street with comfortable walking environment with conducive public transits’ connections. The proposed design of star trench of green linkages regenerated this street with the modern image where the use of green technologies such as solar panel and led lighting would certainly improves the existing condition of this busiest shopping location in the city center, day and night.
