Abstract

The scheme is exemplary for its commitment in developing an interesting piece of architecture from a simple singular idea. It uses successive portal frames to create spaces for placing functions within it. The frames are then allowed to slant indiscriminately to obtain varied perceptions from within as well as when viewed from the outside. The breadth of the frames are further varied and allowed to overlap in order to define and place the varying functional spaces within. The overall effect is dramatic, especially in contrast to the surrounding regulated facades. Amidst the austere background, the repetitive nature of the portal frames also creates refreshing rhythmic colours to Dataran Merdeka.
