Abstract

Esther’s overall design for the master plan recalls institutional design theme. She created many spaces, each with a different style through her design concept ‘experiencing connectivity’. The plan is organised as a series of spaces, joined by garden steps and pathways representing various features and design techniques. Among the features are promenade, plaza, watch tower, pedestrian bridge, outdoor café, parking area and existing oil palms. Esther’s work attempts to solve the lack of connection and character to unite the three existing elements at the site: Banquet Hall, Food 6 and Graduate School of Management. She proposes a goal ‘to design a landscape that can bring a sense of character and connectivity into the site’ to overcome them. The strength of this master plan is the reflection of sensitivity towards existing site condition and enhancing their potentials. Consideration has been given to the design process as shown in the idea development process. The idea behind this proposal is to create and injecting more function to spaces by facilitating movements from one node to another. She also attempts to put similarity and uniformity of the soft- and hard-scapes by introducing modern and geometrical form approaches.
