Abstract

Issues raised in this project are neglect of our surrounding environs relate to insensitivity and extensive cutting and filling of natural landform. Moreover, the design of the building puts lesser consideration to outdoor spaces and linkages for connecting people especially students. Sustainable landscape is introduced as a site planning concept to promote university’s reputation as an academic excellence centre. The student proposed outdoor learning spaces comprising of wide outdoor open areas that include sensitive secondary forest and water body. The area is located at the highest focal point as established landmark with functionality and aesthetic values. The concept would like to change people’s perception about the new veterinary school is not only for academicians but also for social excellence of its students’. The design includes a new access, a secondary forest as buffer and upgrading existing catchment areas for outdoor activities. Simultaneously, outdoor building spaces are also upgraded to be more user-friendly. A heightened sense of belonging and the genius loci of that place are achieved with the proposed changes. Nevertheless any provision of outdoor facilities could fail without regular users. In lieu of this issue, new student hostels are proposed closer to the new facilities for optimum utilisation. In overall proposed development attempts to maximise site planning principles to fulfill user needs and keeping the surrounding environment intact and continuously protected.
