Abstract

Issues that have been brought up by the student are related to environmental conditions that are not responsive to users. Among the issues include high temperature surrounding the area, lack of facilities and lack of landscape maintenance. All of them contributed to low activities in this area. In dealing with these issues, the student created a comfortable space and responsive environment for users by applying a modern tropical concept. Idris is successful in creating responsive environment with several conducive spaces for users to perform their activities. They are open plaza and courtyard for student’s informal activities. Facilities such as gazebo and mini amphitheatre for outdoor activities are also proposed. The concept and original objective of this plaza consider the tarmac area and vegetations to create a responsive environ. Idris applies many vertical lines principles for space division. Every available space has varied angles formed by vertical lines. In order to soften these lines, curvilinear lines have been added, especially at the open plaza area.
