Abstract

This project near Bukit Bintang area demonstrates a good understanding of the issues and problems related to the six urban planning and design fundamentals. They are freedom of choice for transportation, livelihood of people and equality, quality city living environment, appreciation of aesthetic values, social improvement and environmental responsibility. The analysis has focused on existing local problems. By introducing green people (ren) concept, the problems relating to the issue of free green zone is overcome. Natural green plants are introduced to provide shade for people and at the same time increase the local air quality index. Due to space and maintenance constrains metal structures are introduced as shade provider over pedestrian walking paths . Energy efficient tranportation system is proposed to link the neighborhoods for the benefits of visitors and tourists. Needs for disabled people have also been emphasised by conforming the necessary equipments and other facilities to universal design principles. Through the vehicular-free linkages to the Bukit Bintang area, people could conveniently walk without hassle. Major flooding problems will be solved by implementing a mini smart tunnel system. An underground closed drainage system, which could retain a high volume of water, is introduced to cater to the volume of water during monsoon season. Additionally, existing and new building typology, especially those with historical building facades, will be retained and preserved as historical tourist attraction while they function as well known and popular commercial entities in Kuala Lumpur.
