Abstract

This project is a redesign of Taman Dr. Seenivasagam or known as Taman Dr. by the locals. Cindy synthesised that although the park has a reputation as a popular green spaces in Ipoh, she had noticed that the park is starting to degrade and many of its activities are disconnected or disintegrated from each other. Therefore, Cindy uses the concept of togetherness to respond to the disintegration issue at the park. Her simple idea is reconnecting the park’s spaces in terms of its activities and its physical pattern by design. The concept of togetherness is achieved through a well-planned space distributions and pattern of circulation. A strong axis is introduced through the plaza to overcome the disintegration issue. It is commendable as it exudes a strong “sense of direction” by focusing visitors’ view on the axis. The axis stretches from the Ipoh tree (preserved and highlighted as a landmark tree) towards the “treasure hunt island” giving the proposal a strong unifying element in the form of a well-planned pedestrian route as it cuts through the middle of the park to various available attractions. The network of people and spaces are clearly demarcated using the concept of axis, nodes and vistas. The pedestrian and vehicular routes are clearly defined. They connect the proposed attractions well and making them highly permeable – physically and visually. The introduction of new public spaces and activities strengthens the attraction of the park and act as the binding forces tying the disintegrated activities that are currently being observed.
