Abstract

Understanding space when constructing form becomes a key theme in this project. Students perceived human behaviour as a set of spatial systems and studied anthropometrics for adoption in the early design stage of the project. Conformity, relaxing and ergonomics have been intensively discoursed to be semiotically translated into an existential form of board chair. Providing spaces by integrating understanding of surface, depth and texture redefined cliche perception of chair as a platform for sitting by humans. As an art of structure for transfering loads in a controlled manner, the fragile corrugated boards were manipulated, juxtaposed and technologised in order to support human loads for an extended period of time without compromising design intellectuality. Detailedness and cleverness of craft were interwoven discipline among students about artwork constructions. Working in a group of two, students paved an exciting approach in handling reused materials such as corrugated boards as the key material in an environmentally sustainable design.
